I installed a Russian phonetic keyboard on my laptop today and felt accomplished! I used this handy set of instructions. My accomplishment is meaningless, however, because I can’t use my beloved laptop for work anyway. Instead, I’ve been using this online keyboard from borrowed computers. If you were wondering, those are your options when typing Cyrillic phonetically! Ritual suicide: also an option.

It was wrong decision

Why do you consider Virtual Keyboard so much harder than system inout? No doubt than system inout is the best but on Virtual Keyboard page you can type almost the samw way -
using regular physical keyboard (not mouse) and _same_ layout as at home!
So it’s not completely true (why 100% meaningless):

By the way, why you cannot tune-up system keyboard at work as you did for your home computer?
Pavel, thanks for the tip! I think I will install your phonetic version on my laptop, so I only have to learn one keyboard.
Since I’m interning at a bank, my work computer isn’t mine, so I can’t really mess with it.

Yes, it’s what I meant. If you do so you should go to Control Panel and click on “Remove” for that older layout
