Many exciting things have been happening! College is a force for self-improvement. On Wednesday Kinky Friedman came down here to talk up his run for governor. I really enjoyed him, especially after reading the New Yorker article on the subject. (Little Jewford would make the best First Lady ever.) Kinky is funny and sincere, and I think he is better than the alternative.
And last night, there was this fantastic travelling disco dance party, and oh, it was epic. By which I mean, groovy, probably. We got kicked out of 7/11, annoyed everyone on Blanton 3rd floor, and learned how to do the Hustle. People tended to react to the disco caravan with either rage (7/11 manager), delight (those who joined in), or bemusement (everyone else). I really am too self-conscious about the entire dancing business, as evidenced by my referring to it as a “business,” and so two hours of dancing around campus to disco music was probably good for me. Also, incredibly fun!
Links of the moment: philosopher action figures, pink rabbit, college.
I also have a schedule.
haha i was hanging out with some people in the quad when spontaeous dance party burst into the scene. we were like “[silence]…. what the FUCK?! are we in a movie?”
oh no! witnesses!
it APPALLS me that you misspelled governor
p.s. spontaneous disco dancing is only ok in kung fu hustle
Will the disco caravan be coming to Michigan? *Pleeeeeease?*
Actually Aaron, something of equivalent, or some may say greater, awesomeness was happening today from two - four at Liberty Plaza, and will be happening again in two weeks (it’s possible, if i recover in time)
It involved Pie, “Abstract Caricatures”, Trumpets, Trombones, 4 Guitars, a snare drum, a piano, a boombox with arabic pop, the lower half of a woman’s body tied to a tree, a clarinet a long wig, 3 liters of hot chocolate, dancing, random wayfaring, and Police (the band), and the random ann arbor populace, and jazz clarinet. Anyway, if you wanna come next time… I’ll mail ya or something about it, (also I hope to get more musical instruments, so whatever you play, please bring, and if you have the skills of a culinary master chef, i want some pastries.. dough boy) I am also considering making apple pie instead of pumpkin, like this time. anyway, there was whipped cream involved. And we all know
Everything improves with whipped cream (try it.)
-bilal the incorrigible publicist ghalib
Oh yeah, Aaron, I also brought a small TV and an Old School SNES with Mortal Kombat Ultimate 3 and Super Metroid.
Also… we played twister, with random people. Now that kind of social interaction… is quite a pleasurable thing indeed (i didn’t play, i was busy painting my “portraits”… things did sound like they were getting quite intense though)
_bg too awesome for his own body and needs to share
Whoa! I can’t believe I missed a jammin’ caricature pie party on my very own campus! Where’s liberty plaza?
Hi, I saw your post on Kinky Friedman and thought you might be interested in what I’m trying to do regarding the Kinkster. I have a unique little program called The Armadillo Podcast and I keep asking Kinky to be a guest on the show, but I’ve never had a reply from his campaign.
To earn a spot on the ballot, The Committee to Elect the Kinkter needs to reach out to non-traditional voters. So I thought the campaign should be made aware of the strong sentiments felt by both bloggers and podcasters.
To point out to the campaign the power of collective blogging, I just posted a story that links to your blog. If you will in turn link to any of the three posts I’ve done on Kinky, then his folks will begin to feel the impact of this traffic when they look at their web stats.
Here are the three previous posts:
