I planted my bonsai tree today. I have finished cold stratifying the seeds in my refrigerator and so, according to the instructions, they are ready to germinate and grow into fine Jack Pines. Tragically, only the strongest one will survive to rule the peat.

I know nothing about plant life except what I learned in AP Biology, which knowledge pertained to xylem and phloem rather than care and feeding. So I hope my experiment in horticulture succeeds.

Summer has been going swimmingly.

Poking around craigslist, you find the oddest things. Human beings are strange and twitchy little things. The missed connections page in particular turns up small fascinating instances of weirdness like these.

Going through my photographs yesterday filled me with a false sensation of accomplishment. I took those a long time ago, though, and they’re not genius. Today I feel like I’m falling behind everyone else, who is already an excellent webdesigner (with a job), a proficient chess player, a poet and an artist. Theoretically I will eventually accomplish those things, but having read Ender’s Game, I’ve developed a fear of wasting my youth. I’m terrified that, three years from now, I’ll meet someone exactly my age and realize that I’ve fallen hopelessly behind. Panicky, I tackle the Worthington Essay Contest.

So I updated the /foto section with various deer and seagulls from months and months ago. At this rate I should get the stuff from this month up by next year.

Summer is going swimmingly. I’ve still got massive amounts of cleaning left to do in my room. Mostly this cleaning consists of throwing huge piles of my old life away. This is depressing because I have been forced to accept that in all likelihood, no one is going to want to publish my childhood memoirs. I am just not famous enough.

I’ve been back from the mitten state for a little while now. Mostly I’ve been sitting around, reading, sleeping it off. Michigan was fantastic.

Look at this cool thing Google is doing! I am totally okay with Google taking over the world.
