I really like Spoon, this Austin band I found. Naturally, by “found” I mean “was told about by someone who doesn’t even live in Texas.” Yay Austin! Yay Texas! Although patriotism to a state is impossible by definition, I’ve got to pledge allegience to this thing so I figure Merriam-Webster’s wrong on this one. Speaking of which, Robert Jensen did a pretty cool article on the Texas Pledge a while ago. I’m late to the party, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been fuming all along! Fuming! Full of rage!

Speaking of Texas laws, did you know it’s a crime in your state to buy, sell, or own lab glassware without a permit? That’s right: if I send you a test tube for Christmas, the police can slap you with a $4,000 fine for posession of drug paraphernalia. :sigh: It’s nice to see politicians working so hard to promote the sciences…
